Realiability & Spill Over KPI
EazyBI Series

Welcome to the EazyBI Reporting Series. I will discuss how you can build the Sprint Reliablity and Spill Over KPIs.
Reliablity KPI Description
Predictability of the development team on a sprint/release base
Formula
# Planned Story Points Delivered / # StoryPoints Planned
Periodicity
By Sprint
What is good value/ trend?
Increasing trend and stable after 90%
When to be alarmed?
Decreasing trend, fluctuating more than ±25% ,consistently below 80% or consistently above 100%
Corrective Behavior
Problems with reliability can be examined at two levels
• Productivity, if the team is struggling to deliver their reliability will go down
• Estimation process for planning, if a team does not estimate effectively their reliability will either be significantly higher/lower than other teams
Example
Total Story Points Planned = 50
Total Planned Points Delivered = 45
Thus, Reliability = (45/50)*100% = 90%
Spill Over KPI Description
Total number of story points that are still work in progress upon completion of a sprint
Formula
# Planned StoryPoints Not Delivered / # StoryPoints Planned
Periodicity
By Sprint
What is good value/ trend?
It should trends towards 10% and stabilize once the team is mature
When to be alarmed?
Any value >10%
Corrective Behavior
- Predictability shows two things – how effective a team is at estimation and how productive a team is at delivering
- If this is increasing, must look into a teams productivity levels and their estimation process
- Can be used to help set the WIP limit
- Might be an indication of dependency management issue like how many stories are in progress across the full sprint
Example
Total Story Points Planned = 50
Total Story Points Delivered = 45
Thus, Sprint End Spillover = [(50-45)/50]*100% =
